Once upon a time in foggy London, two office girls shared a not-so-weird secret. Every Wednesday, after work they'd go into the bathroom, and rid themselves of the blazers, skirts, stockings, all those bleary outfits marking them as "office workers" and morph into two beings who are fun-- with their flashy neon Rip Curl bakpacks (orange for the taller one, pink for the younger lass), sweat pants and shining faces, they'd ride the tube to Earl's Court, walk the streets full of eateries, and settle in for a quick supper before the big event at 9.
You'd think it was something important, something life changing, well actually it was. Not in an expectedly spectacular way, but yes, it changed their ways. They were out learning how to shake their butts.
It was a dance class ran by Creation Dance UK, pretty much the same thing as this. In fact, that perky, fun lady in red was their dance instructor.
Each session, a new dance routine was taught, most of it to the beat of The Pussycat Dolls, because, well, the teacher seems to love them. Twelve people- black, white, asian, european- from teenagers to office workers, sweating it out with beaming faces, trying to master the steps.
That dance class was one of the best gifts ( and best memory) I got from my London life. I still am not a good enough dancer, but that class taught me the magic of dancing, the feel of moving to the beat without caring if you look klutzy or not, just that it feels good.
