Remember how love
crashes, heals and lives on despite life and distance,
How like water it runs through rivulets of changes
to something we could taste and savor for strength.
That everything is a matter of faith—our breaths, how something
difficult is a matter of air, sustaining us.
That sometimes emotion, that one deep longing is not reason
enough to run free. There’s the sun, the shadows of those who
live on us for nourishment to root us back to life.
That we are not two souls, but continents who must grow
apart to flourish.
In the absence of land is an infinite space of affection
flowing through to lull us back into a solace that every day
is immortal, how we are living through lifetimes with this—
a pause, a second to form that knowing smile,
How across the sea is the half –piece of what we once lived
through, how it blossoms despite our loss, how that’s enough
consolation, reason enough to live beautifully too.
